Material Attributes
Choices are made based on material properties appropriate for specific functions and performance objectives. Such material properties include high structural performance, specific thermal properties, high recycled content, long life, recyclability, non-combustibility, and compatibility with efficient mechanized manufacturing processes. Material choices are not drawn from traditional construction methods or commonly refernced Green Building material lists.
Of course, cost effectiveness is also an important variable. With the HólosHouse this variable is treated with respect to lifecycle cost, value added, long-life and low maintenance. In this case low initial cost is not the primary driver although preliminary cost analysis suggests that construction costs are comparable to conventional “high-quality” building methods.
